Scott Markel, communications chief, was awarded the Florida APCO/NENA Public Safety Communications Center Director of the Year at the state awards ceremony on May 22. Markel oversees four shift supervisors, fifteen full-time dispatchers and five substitute dispatchers. In addition to running the center, he is responsible for the 9-1-1 division consisting of a coordinator, IT specialist and a data analyst. Markel also ensures that the ECC runs efficiently and remains progressive by providing the most current software/hardware that is available to the industry.
“These awards show the hard work and dedication of the Emergency Communications Center employees.” said Emergency Management Director, Brad Baker. “While Kevin and Scott were recognized at the state level for excellence in their respective fields, I want to give a shout out for all our employees and their tireless commitment to deliver a high level of care for the citizens of Santa Rosa County.”
