” Not going to jail”

Kelly Hurley

A Destin man suspected of shoplifting pulled a box cutter on employees who tried to stop him as was leaving the store, telling them he was “not going to jail.”

One of the workers took Hurley to the ground and held him until Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived.

36-year old Kelly Hurley of Calhoun Avenue was spotted inside the Best Buy store on Emerald Coast Parkway yesterday opening merchandise with a box cutter and then concealing it.

Deputies say when arrested he had a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, and a portable charging device.

He’s been charged with aggravated assault, larceny (third or more offense), and use of an anti- shoplifting control device.

30-year old Jennifer Gilbert of Mary Esther, who deputies say acted as a look-out to help Hurley, is charged with retail theft.

Navarre Newspaper reminds our readers that Kelly Hurley and Jennifer Gilbert are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
